The QMT System: Description
![]() ![]() |
The system consists of a commercially available orthopedic frame (Zimmer), a standard examination table (Preston), a high precision load cell (Interface), a data acquisition board (Metrabyte), and customized straps and a body harness. Subjects are tested on an adjustable examination table surrounded by a frame which provides a rigid and adjustable anchor for the transducer. The software is custom built to allow easy measurement, storage, display and future retrieval of all the results of the muscle test. The system is designed to operate on an IBM or compatible computer (286,386,486 or pentium). Collection protocol is 50 Hz, 250 lb. full scale resolution, 5 second collection time and initiated from a remote hand held switch. Research papers such as "Facioscapulohumeral Dystrophy Natural History Study: Standardization of Testing Procedures and Reliability of Measurements" in "Physical Therapy / Volume 74, Number 3/March 1994" cite the QMT as the primary tool for the quantitative evaluation of muscle strength in the drug study. |
